RUBbin' it all weekend long

Tonight is the 5-year anniversary of The Rub at Southpaw. If you are in Brooklyn tonight and want to dance your a$$ off at 1 of the best parties around, stop by. Then tomorrow, they will be at McCarren Park Pool spinning with Mark Ronson.

If you don't know about The Rub, they are a NY-based DJ crew consisting of DJ Ayres, Eleven and Cosmo Baker. Individually and collectively they have put out some very memorable mixes that are definitely worth checking out.

E Pluribus Venom

My set of pics on Flickr from opening night of E Pluribus Venom in Dumbo. The line was bananas by the time we got there at 7:45. But not even an hour long wait nor a cold and windy rain shower could deter us. Dewars and Reed's ginger beer were complimentary, as was a nice assortment of Obey stickers. DD even managed to grab some of that Obey currency that was floating around. Dope beats were provided by the one and only Cosmo Baker. The only thing that would have made the evening complete is a small Asian guy with a huge martini glass filled with Dewars. Wait, that actually happened...

OH, and apparently the infamous Splasher was captured! This little peckerwood has been running around for the past year splashing paint all over artwork in NYC. I actually saw this little Harry Potter look-alike being detained by the security guards towards the end of the evening, but I just thought he was getting busted for drinking underage. Read more on this here, via Gothamist.

Shepard Fairey tonight - E Pluribus Venom

Very excited for this tonight... but not as excited as DD (my heart). The exhibit is definitely going to be amazing, and so is the music. DJ sets by Cosmo Baker, Mr. 10 Fingers, and Shepard Fairey himself. I will try to take as many pics as possible and post them on my Flickr account.

Cosmo Baker "Feeling Good"

Cosmo Baker just came out with a new mixtape that I have been listening to all day, even though the weather is absolute crap outside. In his own words, "A few weeks ago, I woke up and it was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, the temperature was just right. It made me think of a certain sound that just means "spring/summer" to me, so before I headed out I made this mix to listen to while I ran around New York. There's nothing like New York in the springtime." Absolutely, Cosmo.
